SHARON CONROY
Open and Aware:
Learning to See Ourselves Clearly
While the Iyengar tradition is a very methodical approach, it is not intended to be rigid or mechanical. B.K.S. Iyengar wants us to see our poses with fresh eyes each time we practice.
We'll work towards developing this ability in sequences that include a variety of poses: standing, supine, forward bends, twists, backbends, and inversions.
Friday, July 25 / 6 to 8 p.m. / All Levels / $35
Saturday, July 26 / 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. / All Levels / $45
Saturday, July 26 / 4 to 6 p.m. / All Levels / $35
These classes are open to anyone who has studied yoga continuously in any tradition for at least six months.
Moving Along with Inversions
Inversions are highly valued in the Iyengar tradition. They are calming to the nervous system, renew energy, and reduce stress. If they are practiced regularly, inversions balance the endocrine system.
In this class, we will explore a variety of different kinds of inversions in hopes that you will practice them confidently, safely, and regularly. While our focus will be inversions, we'll also be working with other families of poses including standing poses, backbends, twists, and forward bends.
While the focus of the two classes is inversions, a variety of other poses will be taught including seated forward bends, twists, and supine poses.
Sunday, July 27 / 1 to 4 p.m. / Intermediate / $50
This class is open to anyone who has studied yoga continuously in any tradition for at least 18 months.
Discounted rates available! First three classes: $95 / All four classes: $135
Sharon Conroy has been practicing in the Iyengar tradition since 1986. She founded the Iyengar community in New Orleans and taught in the city until Katrina. After the storm, Sharon settled in Grayton Beach, on the Florida panhandle, where she opened a center in 2007. She studies in Pune with the Iyengar family annually and is a longtime student of Patricia Walden.
Students describe Sharon as a dynamic and compassionate teacher. Her love for the practice of asana coupled with her devotion to studying the yoga sutras comes through in her teaching.

Writing as Spiritual Practice
Four-week course: Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
October 9 – November 20
$80
Do you have the patience to wait
til your mind settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving
until the right action arises by itself?
- Lao-Tzu
Using the spiritual tools of not knowing, single-minded effort, non-judgment and mindfulness, we learn to make writing a habit, creating stories that are individual and universal, ordinary and divine. The writing exercises build on one another, adding layers of depth and detail as we share in a safe, sacred space. Meditations help to free up thoughts and memories, transforming them into vibrant, well-rendered stories. You’ll be encouraged to see from within, to express your distinctive voice, be heard, and awaken to yourselves.
Myrna Patterson has been an editor, teacher and writer for over 30 years. Formerly a Massachusetts Cultural Council writer-in-residence, she created Aurora Writing Workshops, and was chosen for Who's Who in America. She has recently taught at Kripalu Center in Lenox, the Center in Cambridge, and at an The International High School. Myrna is a poet whose first collection is entitled Umbra. She is a year-round resident of Wellfleet.

KARIN STEPHAN
Building Strength in the Upper Body
An Iyengar Workshop with Karin Stephan and assistants.
The first way to think about building strength in our upper bodies is to work on poses that help to develop our internal sense of alignment in the hands, arms, shoulders and back. Initially, strength does not come from strength alone, but from balance. It is not necessary to be strong to be strong, but to be balanced to be strong.
This workshop will develop slowly and gradually into a very precise set of sequences which will work on building balance and strength. Weaving in and out of various asanas and movements that develop alignment and those that develop strength, Karin will build slowly but surely an understanding of how to create an upper body which will allow us to do handstands, headstands, forearm balances, backbends and shoulder stands with grace and ease. Asymmetries in the upper body will be taken into consideration and students will be shown ways to work with those asymmetries.
This workshop is for all levels but is not recommended for people with back, shoulder, neck or arm injuries.
